MANILA, PHILIPPINES- Last October 5, a research seminar entitled “Conceptualizing Quantitative Research: Methods and Analysis” was conducted and spearheaded by the USTSS’s Executive Board, held in the Quadricentennial Pavilion’s function room from 1 pm to 5 pm, for the benefit of the 4SCL students, together with some IPEA students who were also undergoing their thesis writing process.

The seminar started with a welcome remarks by Mr. Antonino Tobias, IV followed by Assoc. Prof. Jerome Porto, MAED, the Academic Head of the Institute of Physical Education and Athletics who gave his inspirational message before the discussions. It ended with the closing remarks of French Templonuevo, USTSS’s President.

The seminar served as a guide for the students on how to properly write their thesis papers as the seminar included additional information on how to do the process of Phenomenology, now one of the research approaches currently used in IPEA and a usual approach used mostly by Sociology students. The research seminar aimed to address the different misconceptions about qualitative and quantitative studies as the speakers each discussed their research specialties starting with Dr. Analin Porto who gave a lecture on how to do a quantitative study and briefly discussed the different kinds of research and its actual research processes while Doctor Romero tackled about how to conduct phenomenological studies and its four methods to further help students to succeed in using this kind of approach for their academic researches. After all, research is poking and prying with a purpose.
