Templonuevo to lead Sociological Society for 2018-2019, 4 new student leaders emerged

The UST Sociological Society (USTSS) elected its new Executive Board (EB) on May 2018. Two re-electionists are set to lead the society in thus another year of challenges, opportunities, and student activities. The candidates had a one day campaign prior to the polls. For Adam Laurena, a USTSS alumna, he “just wish[es] that the newly-elected candidates would get to cater to the very need of the students they are serving and, at the same time, the faculty as a whole.”

French Viviene Templenuevo, the Vice President for External Affairs 2017-2018, was elected as President, garnering a total of 85 votes. Soller and Cardinoza were also re-elected as Secretary and Treasurer with 93 and 88 votes respectively. All three (3) re-electionists served the USTSS in 2017-2018 in different capacities.

Four (4) new student leaders emerged from the pool. Timothy Asinas and Allyson Bautista were elected as Vice Presidents for Internal and External Affairs respectively. Clarisse Noble will work hand-in-hand with Cardinoza as the new USTSS Auditor. Yyann Ong is the new USTSS Public Relations Officer.

yThe term of office for the newly elected USTSS EB starts in July 2018 and ends on June 2019. They will lead the Sociological Society under the guidance of the USTSS Advisers, Asst. Prof. Josephine Aguilar-Placido, Sociology Department Chair, and Mr. Antonino N. Tobias IV, Sociology Department faculty member and thesis coordinator. The socio-political and economic conditions in the Philippines present exciting opportunities for the USTSS to advocate and engage meaningfully for the promotion and protection of people’s rights. The new leaders are in a good position to advance the advocacy for these rights to the USTSS and the entire Tomasian community.
