The Faculty of Arts and Letters (AB) had its commencement exercises on June 4, 2018 at the UST Quadricentennial Pavillion. A total of 1,187 graduating students were conferred with a baccalaureate degree of their academic program.
The Sociology Department had a total of 69 graduates with 20 Latin honors recipient (4 Magna Cum Laude and 16 Cum Laude). Even though the skies were gray and it was a rainy day for the graduates, this didn’t interrupt the celebration of a milestone in their life that the seniors and their family waited for at least four (4) years.
The ceremonies were rather ordinary in execution, but for Azul, “it was good because within the few seconds of walking thr(o)u(gh) the stage, our parents were able to see what they have worked so hard for, the fruit of their labor.” Similarly for Laurena, “Seeing us walk on that stage… solidified the hard work we have all been doing for four years despite the multiple moments of self-doubt.”
Their journey in the university may have ended now, but life continues to go on. Perhaps, it becomes a challenge for these new graduates to put theory into practice as they venture the great unknown. The UST Sociological Society wishes them luck as they journey towards realizing a Philippine and global society that upholds human and people’s rights. Padayon, Ka-Socio!
